Se cuenta de un hombre de Bagdag que vivía en completo desahogo y tenía grandes riquezas. Pero éstas se le agotaron, su situación cambió y se quedó sin nada consiguiendo comer sólo a costa de grandes esfuerzos. Cierta noche mientras dormía cohibido y amedrentado vio en sueños a una persona que le decía: "¡Tu fortuna se encuentra en el Cairo! !Ve, corre a buscarla!."

Emprendió el viaje al Cairo, llegó al atardecer y fue a dormir en una mezquita. Cerca de la mezquita había una casa y Dios (¡ensalzado sea!) dispuso que una partida de ladrones entrase en la mezquita para asaltar la casa. Los habitantes de esta se despertaron al oir el movimiento de los ladrones y empezaron a chillar. El Valí de la ciudad y sus hombres acudiron a auxiliarles. Los ladrones huyeron. El Valí entró a lamezquita y encontró dormido al bagdalí. Le detuvo y le hizo azotar golpes muy dolorosos hasta que estuvo apunto de morir. Le encarceló y estuvo tres días en prisión. Después le hizo comparecer y la preguntó: "¿De qué pais eres?" "De Bagdag" "¿Y qué motivos te han traido a El Cairo?" "He visto en sueños a una persona que me decía: <<Tu fortuna se encuentra en el Cairo. Vete>>.
